Privacy Policy

Your child's privacy and safety are our top priorities

Last Updated: November 29, 2025

Spotalot is designed with children's privacy and safety at its core. This privacy policy explains in clear, parent-friendly language what information we collect, what we don't collect, and how we protect your family.

Information We Collect

Spotalot collects minimal information needed to provide the counting experience. Specifically, the app may store:

  • Current count values: The numbers associated with items your child is counting (for example, the number 42 if they've counted 42 red cars).
  • Count labels: The text descriptions your child or you have entered for what is being counted (for example, "Red cars" or "Dogs").
  • App settings: Any optional preferences you or your child choose, such as theme preferences or display settings.

This information is tied to the device, not to a named user account. It exists solely to make the counting game work and to remember your child's progress between sessions.

What We Do Not Collect

Spotalot is intentionally designed to avoid collecting personal information about children. We want to be very clear about what we do not collect:

  • No user accounts: The app does not require children or parents to create accounts with usernames, passwords, or email addresses.
  • No personal identifying details: We do not ask for or collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, photos, or any other personally identifiable information from children.
  • No social features: There is no in-app social network, no chat functionality, no friend lists, and no way for users to communicate with each other or share information.
  • No behavioral advertising tracking: We do not track children's behavior across apps or websites for the purpose of serving targeted advertisements.

Location and Usage

Spotalot does not collect GPS location data. The app does not track where your child is geographically or where they are counting items. If any location-related features are introduced in the future, they would be clearly explained, narrowly scoped, and would require explicit permission. Any such feature would never be used for tracking or selling location data.

How Data Is Stored

The count values, labels, and settings are stored locally on your device. This means the data stays on your phone or tablet and is used only to make the counting experience work smoothly—so your child can pick up where they left off. Currently, Spotalot does not offer cloud backup or sync features. Any data backup that occurs would be through your device's normal backup processes (such as iCloud or Google backups), which you control through your device settings.

Third-Party Services

Spotalot does not sell or share data with advertisers or data brokers. We may use limited third-party services for essential operational purposes, such as:

  • Crash reporting: To identify and fix technical issues that might affect the app's performance.
  • Analytics: To understand general usage patterns (such as how many times the app is opened) in order to improve the experience.

Any third-party services we use are carefully selected and are not used to track or profile children for advertising purposes. We ensure that these services comply with children's privacy laws and regulations.

Children's Privacy

Spotalot is designed with children's privacy in mind and complies with applicable children's privacy laws, including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) where applicable. We avoid collecting personal information from children. Parents can contact us at any time with questions, concerns, or requests related to their child's information.

Your Rights and Choices

As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:

  • Review any information stored by the app on your device
  • Delete the app and all associated data at any time by uninstalling it
  • Contact us with questions or concerns about privacy
  • Request clarification about our data practices

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. If we make significant changes that affect how we handle children's information, we will provide additional notice through the app or other appropriate means.
